On August 4, state health officials in Wisconsin disclosed a dozen cases of severe lung disease that appeared to be linked to the use of vaping devices, including electronic cigarettes. But state health departments, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) are working to identify the e-cigarettes that the teens had used and what chemicals the patients might have inhaled, according to the statement. Lead author Harriet Cunniffe, from James Paget Hospital in eastern England, is calling for surgeons to ensure dentures are removed from patients before an operation. The metal plate with three front teeth had been causing internal blistering and swelling. Tests revealed he had internal wound tissue around the site of the blistering which was cauterised to prevent further bleeding. (more...)

The coroner said police gunfire hit two people. The obituary for Dayton, Ohio , gunman Connor Betts is stirring outrage after it made no mention of the 24-year-old's mass shooting . He killed nine people in less than a minute, including his own sibling, and injured 17 others. The shooter, who was wearing a bullet-proof vest, was probably shot at least 24 times as police tried to stop him, Harshbarger said. (more...)

The virus spreads through mosquitos that are infected by feeding on birds that carry the virus. "It's important people be conscientious about self-protection whenever they're outside during the evening hours". Philip Armstrong, a medical entomologist with the Connecticut Agricultural Experiment Station, says West Nile is typically detected in mosquitoes from late-June to mid-July so this year's detection is later than usual.
