If it were successful, the Justice Department's position supporting the judge's ruling would potentially eliminate health care for millions of people and create widespread disruption across the U.S. In briefs filed with the appellate court, House lawyers said that if O'Connor's ruling were upheld "the consequences will be devastating". They added that "insurance costs will skyrocket" and "Medicare recipients will face steep increases in the price of drugs and other services". (more...)

The WHO chief vowed that despite the increased attacks by armed groups, the WHO "will stay the course and will work with communities to end this outbreak together with the Ministry of Health and partners". He added that Ebola cases were still on the rise, instead of declining as expected. With an optimistic outlook this outbreak is predicted to last another six months - but realistically we could be looking towards another year of fighting this disease. (more...)

Researchers discovered that people who drink more than 700 ml of tea hotter than 60 degrees Celsius (140 degrees Fahrenheit) every day are at a 90 percent higher risk of esophageal cancer than those who drink less and prefer their cups at cooler temperatures. The study of over 500,000 people found those who drink tea at 60°C or more were nearly twice as likely to develop the condition. Traditionally, in Iran - where the study was conducted - and countries such as China, Turkey and South America, tea is often drunk without milk and at a hotter temperature of 70°C. (more...)
