John Bel Edwards' staff has planned a press conference Wednesday for more details, a day before the notices are set to be mailed to 37,000 Medicaid recipients in nursing homes or other long-term care facilities. At least one nursing home has started notifying people about the possible loss of benefits. "It's egregious in my personal opinion", said House GOP leader Lance Harris, of Alexandria. (more...)

The Canadian government has sharpened its tone towards asylum seekers, warning that simply making it across the border is not a "free ticket" to Canada as the number of migrants crossing from the USA continues to rise. In Toronto, Mayor John Tory said last month that number of asylum seekers in city shelters had grown from 459 in 2016 to 2,351, and his city needs more funds to deal with the situation. (more...)

The Centers for Disease Control said a total of 149 people in 29 states have become sick. A second case in ND possibly associated with the outbreak is still under investigation. Four more states are reporting illnesses caused by an outbreak of food poisoning linked to romaine lettuce grown in Arizona. Most people recover in five to seven days with supportive treatment. Some people never get a rash and only experience flu-like symptoms , arthritis, or nervous symptom problems, according to the NPS.
