Cabela's shareholders are receiving $61.50 per share in the merger. The deal, in the works for more than a year, brings together two of the nation's leading outdoor gear and apparel retailers. Bass Pro, which has locations in Denham Springs and Bossier City, got its start in 1971. Cabela's, which has a retail store in Gonzales, was founded in 1961. (more...)

The CDC reports , "Syphilis rates increased by 17.6 percent over 2015 numbers, including a 35 percent increase in women". The 22% rise in gonorrhea among men was the largest for that disease. "Every baby born with syphilis represents a tragic systems failure", said Gail Bolan, director of CDC's Division of STD Prevention.
