While most people today think of Labor Day as the last weekend of summer, it was actually founded to recognize the men and women and "industrial spirit" of the American workforce. Thank goodness some office workers and bankers are also off work today or they could just call it "non-essential government workers day off". Labor Day, like similar holidays, can be slower than normal. (more...)

San Francisco's transit system is cutting its speed to guard against possible heat-warped rails as the Bay Area breaks heat records for a second day. Temperatures reached 115 south of the city. Giant sequoias are among the largest and longest-lived organisms on Earth. Fire officials said they had no immediate information Saturday on whether any of the giant trees - including the 100-foot-round, 24-story-high Bull Buck sequoia - had burned. (more...)

"This is the President's pardon", the source said. The Justice Department declined to comment to the newspaper. Remnants of Hurricane Harvey set a new record for rainfall Tuesday, the National Weather Service reported . In Kentucky, she said 46 people have been sent and more than 2,000 Red Cross disaster relief volunteers are on the ground in Texas . All disaster relief funds received in Northern Michigan will go directly to Hurricane Harvey relief efforts. (more...)
