The Ivory Coast, Kuwait, Peru, and Poland were also elected to the UN Security Council. The elected countries - all of which were put forward by their regional grouping - will begin their term on January 1, 2018. The candidate that drew the greatest attention was tiny Equatorial Guinea, the only Spanish-speaking country in Africa that was seeking a seat on the Security Council for the first time. (more...)
