In the phase III RATIFY trial, also known as CALGB 10603, 717 patients with newly diagnosed FLT3-mutant AML were randomized to standard induction and consolidation chemotherapy plus midostaurin (n = 360) or placebo (n = 357). Mom pulls gun on Cleveland barber when son's haircut takes too long

The seven-year-old was getting his hair cut by a trainee barber at a higher-education college. Medina said, "When she took out her gun, she said, I'm allowed to carry a concealed weapon". After the woman was calmed down, the barber finished the haircut. The woman, who is now still unidentified, was shown on CCTV involved in a heated dispute with the barber over a $6 haircut her 7-year-old son was receiving at the time. (more...)

With an artificial womb the babies can continue developing - even just a few weeks extra "growing time" can be the difference between severe health problems and a relatively healthy baby. Premature human babies can suffer irreparable lung damage if they breathe air before the 25th week, not to mention the trauma their bodies can sustain just by being outside the womb too early. The " biobag " extra-uterine device is filled with amniotic fluid and pumps the baby's heart via the umbilical cord into a low-resistance external oxygenator in lieu of the placenta in exchanging oxygen and carbon dioxide. Lamb umbilical vessels may not function the same way as human babies do - and lambs are also significantly larger than foetuses at that stage of development. (more...)

There is a high likelihood of lifelong disability among those that do survive, who have a 90 per cent probability of suffering chronic lung disease or other effects of being born with immature organs.
