A Gallup poll conducted past year indicated that 60 percent of Americans believe marijuana should be legal. House Republicans, including Speaker Joe Straus , have openly called the bill, which would ban transgender Texans from using the public restroom that matches their gender identity, "unnecessary" and an impediment to local control . While the bill's Republican sponsor disagreed with that notion, he reluctantly accepted the changes as a necessary compromise.
