Disruption expected across NHS as first all-out junior doctors strike begins

Hunt said that 12,500 operations and 110,000 outpatients appointments have been cancelled across England because of the unprecedented all-out strike by junior doctors. A group of around 30 junior doctors had been at the picket lines since 8am both mornings, and intend on staying all day. Junior doctors have been told by union leaders that NHS trusts and hospitals will be responsible for what happens to patients and not individual medics. (more...)

The NCAA board voted to adopt a new rule requiring cities hosting or bidding on NCAA events to prove how they will protect participants and spectators from discrimination. It also puts in limbo places such as Memphis and Nashville, Tennessee; Boise, Idaho; and Greensboro and Charlotte, North Carolina, which are scheduled to host men's basketball playoff games in 2017 or 2018. The man recovered from initial symptoms of Zika virus infection. Between November 1 and April 15, there were 683 confirmed Zika cases in Puerto Rico . The infection was confirmed in a resident who'd recently traveled to a country with active transmission of the virus , according to the state Department of Health and Environmental Control. (more...)

Mr Babu said it was important the public knew emergency services were being maintained because senior doctors were covering.
