China's Human CRISPR Tests Could Start a "Biomedical Duel"

According to the report in Nature , the team removed immune cells from the recipient's blood and then disabled a gene in them using CRISPR-Cas9. The Chinese trial was approved back in July, and United States medical scientists also plan to use CRISPR as an experimental treatment for cancer patients in early 2017. (more...)

Announcements circulating on Friday and over the weekend indicate students at schools around Puget Sound plan to walk out of class Monday in another protest of Donald Trump being elected as president. As protests dwindled Monday afternoon in the East, activity picked up across the country. Officials from Seattle Public Schools stated that around 5,000 students walked out of 20 high schools and middle schools on Monday. (more...)

A team of experts analyzed data from previous studies and found that late-stage breast cancer disease in almost 25 per cent of black African and 22 per cent of black Caribbean women. Symptoms can range from not having pain to pain all over because the cancer has spread. Other reasons could include tumour biology and a lower awareness of breast cancer symptoms, said Cancer Research UK . (more...)

VA rules prohibit the department from providing medical procedures considered to be gender alterations - restrictions put in place because the surgeries were not deemed medically necessary. HRC sent a letter to VA Secretary Robert McDonald in September asking the department to repeal its categorical exclusion on medically necessary gender affirming surgery from medical benefits. Being obese or overweight is also linked to an overall lower quality of life and poorer mental health. 'This association appears strongest in normal BMI women'. While the study was not created to say for sure whether these fluctuations in weight really led to an increased heart risk, it may very well point to the risks of practices like yo-yo dieting. Because there are only a limited number of antibiotics, drug-resistant bacteria could in time leave doctors with no way to treat cases where antibiotics are actually necessary. Just because you are sick it does not mean you need to take an antibiotic. "Antibiotic resistance in children is of particular concern because they have the highest rates of antibiotic use and often have fewer antibiotic choices since some antibiotics can not be safely given to children", she said. The Courier Mail reported they were French tourists who suffered cardiac arrests. Two tourists died while snorkelling on the Great Barrier Reef. He said Passions of Paradise had offered assistance to the group. She was taken to the boat, where staff then turned their attention to trying to resuscitate her, Garden said. Executive director of the Association of Marine Park Tourism Operators Col McKenzie said: "It just appears to be the ideal storm: two events occurring at the same time". (more...)

Aer Lingus is extending its winter route from Dublin to Fuerteventura into the 2017 summer schedule. Aer Lingus recently commenced flights on three new U.S. The route will begin in September 2017. Dublin Airport's connectivity from North America has grown rapidly over the past six years seeing it move from eleventh position in 2010 to fifth position in 2016 on the league table of European transatlantic airports. The state's voter ID law did force some Wisconsin residents to cast provisional ballots in last Tuesday's presidential election. Most counties in Wisconsin saw a decline in turnout but the drop was particularly dramatic in Milwaukee County, where almost 60,000 fewer votes were cast this year compared to 2012. (more...)

In fact as the moon gradually drifts away from the Earth at an annual rate of 1.5 inches, future Supermoons will become smaller and less impressive, though this will not appear significant in our lifetimes. Almost a week after the government withdrew Rs 500 and Rs 1,000 notes as part of a crackdown against blackmoney and corruption, queues outside banks and ATMs have only got longer. Even coconut vendors are going in for digital wallets. As the there is a limit to the number notes an ATM can hold, the replenished notes are getting over in no time, leading to long queues in front of the kiosks. (more...)

The entire process is done wirelessly thanks to the implanted brain electrodes, and the system itself is similar to one actuated via push-button (using muscles that still function, such as those in the neck or hand).
