Another Form 483 , addressed to Theranos COO Ramesh Balwani, chastises the company for marketing its product, which is manufactured and used by Theranos to collect blood samples, as an unapproved medical device. Theranos said it is already "transitioning" from the CLIA (Clinical Laboratory Improvement Amendments) framework to the FDA framework. During work with mice during that study, they found that applying the drugs on the skin caused more hair to grow than when the drugs were given to rodents systemically. Both are being tested in clinical trials for the treatment of plaque psoriasis and alopecia areata , an autoimmune disease that causes hair loss. In the future, perhaps a treatment will be formulated, but for now, they need to conduct more testing. (more...)

According to the State Health Registry of Iowa, more than 2,200 women in Iowa will diagnosed with breast cancer this year and it will claim close to 400 patients' lives. She started The Image Project, free wigs for patients experiencing medical hair loss. "They could potentially develop cancer , and if they don't go get screened regularly then the cancer metastasizes and by the time it gets caught it's a lot harder to treat", she says. (more...)

The study was launched after a Scottish woman, named in reports as Joy Milne, successfully identified sufferers by smelling T-shirts they had slept in. Scientists at the Universities of Manchester and Edinburgh have identified 24 people like Joy Milne for a pilot study into their abilities. In 1998, Phil Lesh underwent a liver transplant after suffering from a chronic hepatitis C infection.
