Microcephaly in babies can lead to respiratory problems and lifelong difficulties, including intellectual impairment. On Friday, the Centers for Disease Control (CDC) issued broad new recommendations cautioning pregnant women to contemplate postponing travel to 11 Southeast Asian countries where the mosquito-borne virus is spreading, and fortified its warnings for men who are planning to start a family. The new Dengue case is actually the third one confirmed during the current mosquito season that has been traced back to local transmission in Florida. If such travels are necessary, the CDC advised American women to protect themselves against mosquitoes by using repellents, wearing long trousers and long-sleeve shirts, socks and hats as well as bed nets in areas where they are staying, the CDC said. In an unprecedented development, the state was cut-off from the national electricity network, the Australian Energy Market Operator (AEMO) said "resulting in a state-wide power outage in South Australia". Researchers analyzed 158 cases of confirmed or probable postnatal Zika reported from USA states this year from January through July. The CDC says that the level of risk for Zika virus infection in the 11 countries in the travel advisory is unknown, but "it is likely lower (but not zero) than in areas where Zika is newly introduced and spreading widely". All the countries across the Southeast Asia should take stronger preventives to fight with the virus and must strengthen the pre-emptive methods for detecting, avoiding, and responding to the transmission Zika virus. Symphony managers say the orchestra is running a $1.5 million annual deficit and faces more than $20 million in cumulative debt over the next five years. This is the first time musicians with the symphony have gone on strike in 41 years. The orchestra's last contract expired September 5, but the union kept working without a contract so their September 17 PSO Gala performance would not be canceled. (more...)

Now she's back in Bridget Jones's Baby , which sounds godawful in title and concept - but which in execution is a fizzy delight.
