The annual rate of concussions and "closed head injuries" per 10,000 participants increased by 1,596 percent from 1990 to 2014, according to a study published today in the medical journal Pediatrics . each year increased by 78 percent and the yearly rate of injuries increased by 111 percent among youth 7-17 years of age. Some 35 percent of the injuries were sprains or strains, 23 percent were fractures and 22 percent were soft tissue injuries, according to the research. (more...)

The organ, which appeared to be sealed in a clear plastic bag in photos released by authorities , was handed over to police when paramedics couldn't positively identify it as human, the Reflector reported. Huron County Coroner Jeff Harwood said the heart "was in pretty good condition (but) had an odor of decomposition to it". Pigs and chimpanzees, for instance, have hearts that could easily be mistaken for human ones. (more...)

The signing came a day after Buffalo managed just 65 yards rushing in a 13-7 season-opening loss at Baltimore. Two weeks ago, Watkins declared he felt 100 percent after spending two days of practice testing his foot at full speed.
