I really don't care to share many of those . However, in an interview on Mike & Mike yesterday, Goodell flatly denied the allegation that the NFL pushed the Patriots to suspend the two . Belichick acquired Randy Moss when the player's stock was at an all-time low, then paired him with Brady in 2007 to form the greatest single-season passing tandem in league history. (more...)

The Patriots defense figures to focus heavily on the Brown Thursday night, especially because Pittsburgh will be without stud running back Le'Veon Bell and No. After practice, he's often one of, if not the, last player off the field, putting in extra time on the JUGS machine. "We'll see. Opinions don't matter, really", said Brown, who also will continue to return some punts for the Steelers this season. (more...)
Baltimore Finds Out Again, You Can’t Run On the Steelers
- August 28, 2015

Ray Rice had a 14-yard touchdown run in the first quarter. But after that run, here’s a rundown of each and every Baltimore run over the remaining 46 minutes of the game. Even with the 14-yard touchdown run, Baltimore ended up average a depressing 1.9 yards per carry (35 yards on 18 carries). Whether the Steelers’ face the Patriots or Jets next week, they’ll likely face a team that is less willing to give up on the running game. (more...)

So let’s get to it. The scoreboard says the Steelers only lost by three points, 35-32, in what looks like it could have been wild high-scoring game with two of the best quarterbacks in the league. His girlfriend and friends were trying to talk him down. Saints fan down in front of us told him to calm down, which led to the following exchange: Saints fan behind us: Did you hear what he said? Saints fan in front of us: Just let it go, man. (more...)

Two horrendous offensive performances later against two more bad teams, that is probably still true. It just makes the outlook for the rest of the 2014 season seem kind of … hopeless. Ben Roethlisberger is taking a lot of heat for his performance on Sunday — and he did not play well — but take a look at the play-selection in the first half when the Cleveland Browns scored their second touchdown to take a 14-3 lead. Barry Foster ran for 190 yards against the New York Jets. I still remember it, especially since I had a cold and didn’t tell my mom because I REALLY wanted to go to the game — sorry, Mom). But when it’s a two-touchdown loss that pretty much ends your season, well that’s just a pisser. As we’re leaving and starting to walk down General Robinson Street just outside the stadium, we ended up getting stuck in the middle of a pile of people. (more...)

Keisel could still aid this team, which only has three defensive linemen on its roster with any real game experience. But belatedly going with a youth movement will hopefully pay off in the long-term. And finally they may decide to take a chance that no one else will sign Harrison, thus opting to see how Jones and Moats fare early in camp before possibly opting to bring back Harrison later in the summer. Specifically, the Steelers took three players possessing the size and physical skills to possibly become NFL starters down the road despite not being drafted until day No. 3 tight end. But if not this fall, Blanchflower could do so in 2015 after a year on the practice squad. Addressing Positional Need If you look back at my pre-draft mocks, I generally expected the Steelers to use their nine picks on a RB, WR, TE, OT, DE, NT, ILB, OLB and CB. (more...)

The Pittsburgh brass wisely used the 46 th overall pick on Notre Dame’s Stephon Tuitt , the most natural, 5-technique 3-4 defensive end prospect in the entire draft. This guy is a playmaker who will touch the ball 5-10 times per game, capable of going the distance any time he gets free in space. He can serve as a No. (more...)

After all it was clear that corner and receiver were the Steelers’ two biggest needs in this draft due to the lack of quality players signed at both spots beyond 2014 and just how important playmakers on the perimeter have become in today’s NFL. (more...)

They filled the latter on that list by drafting Ohio State’s Ryan Shazier to team with Lawrence Timmons in what should quickly emerge as one of the NFL’s better inside linebacker duos. On the plus-side, though, Pittsburgh can get a 1 st -round talent in the 2 nd -round to fill one of their other major needs in tonight’s NFL draft. (more...)

With glaring holes throughout its depth chart, Pittsburgh rookies should have the opportunity to compete for immediate starting jobs and/or serious playing time at receiver, defensive end, cornerback, inside linebacker, outside linebacker and possibly even left tackle depending on when the Steelers address each position in this week’s three-day NFL draft. The team had an amazing run of successful 1 st -round picks from 2000-08, but recently-departed 2009 pick Ziggy Hood can now be labeled the worst opening-round selection of the Colbert era. NFL teams must have quality depth to advance to the playoffs, which Pittsburgh has now missed for two seasons ongoing for the first time this century. (more...)

What a jacket. On Sunday afternoon, the Green Bay Packers lost on a nearly identical play, in a nearly identical spot, in the exact same end zone. Everything comes full circle. The Steelers didn’t get the ball (they recovered it, because they touched it illegally before it went 10 yards) but everything worked out exactly as planned as the Packers scored a quick touchdown and gave the Steelers an opportunity they may not have had if they kicked it deep. It was also damn cold. Single digit wind chills. Windy. Just plain bitter cold. The type of cold that makes your feet feel like concrete blocks by the time you’re ready to go inside. 4) There was a play in the first quarter, I want to say it was the third down play before Antonio Brown’s punt return touchdown, that the Steelers defense had 12 players on the field and nobody noticed it. - December 11, 2012

We call it The View From 522 (because that’s where he sits). How does a team with Charlie Batch at quarterback go on the road and beat the first place Ravens, only to return home one week later — with Ben Roethlisberger at quarterback! — and get its lunch money stolen by a reeling San Diego Chargers team that is clearly going through the motions and simply playing out the string? That’s the question of the week after the Steelers embarrassing 34-24 loss on Sunday ... (more...)

I didn’t see anyway a team quarterbacked by Charlie Batch, coming off of last week’s performance in Cleveland, could go into Baltimore and win. That’s a passer rating of 74.8. The biggest play to Miller on the day wasn’t necessarily his game-tying touchdown in the fourth quarter, but the 43-yard catch and run he made on the first drive of the third quarter to help set up Jonathan Dwyer’s 17-yard touchdown run (the one that was sparked by the lead blocking of ...
