Jose Chavez, a 33-year-old officer with Hatch's police department, died Friday evening after undergoing surgery in a hospital about 80 miles away in El Paso, Texas, Hatch Mayor Andrew Nunez and local authorities said. Jameson says she doesn't know why Chavez initiated the stop. The man's condition is unknown. An assisting officer told authorities he arrived to assist Chavez with the arrest and saw Chavez reach for his gun, Jameson said. (more...)

The Princeton community gathered for a vigil Tuesday night to show its support for the family of a jogger who was found dead in the woods near her mother's home over the weekend. The town of 3,500 is located about 40 miles west of Boston. Police in New York City say they believe the crime is random, and are still searching for her killer. (more...)
