Prince Harry, Meghan Markles position changed on Royal Familys website

Prince Harry and Meghan announce birth of baby girl

The couple passed on their best wishes and "congratulations" to the Duke and Duchess of Sussex as well as their son Archie. Harry and Meghan's decision to name their daughter after the 95-year-old monarch came less than two months after the death of her husband Prince Philip, the royal family's patriarchal figure. "She is more than we could have ever imagined, and we remain grateful for the love and prayers we've felt from across the globe", Harry and Meghan said in a statement.

Both mother and child are healthy and well, the pair said in a statement.

Her first name, Lilibet, is a nod to Her Majesty The Queen's nickname.

Her middle name, Diana, was chosen to honour her "beloved late grandmother", The Princess of Wales, the statement said.

Meghan accused an unnamed member of the royal family - not the Queen nor Duke of Edinburgh - of racism, saying they expressed concern about how dark Archie's skin tone might be before he was born.

Diana, the former wife of Prince Charles and mother to Harry and his elder brother William, died in a Paris auto crash in 1997.

'Congratulations to Harry, Meghan and Archie on the arrival of baby Lilibet Diana.

Lili joins big brother Archie, who turned 2 in May.

The couple welcomed their daughter at 11.40am on Friday (4.40am on Saturday AEST) at Santa Barbara Cottage Hospital and are now "settling in at home".

They stepped back from their roles as senior working royals a year ago, relinquishing their HRH titles, and now live in Santa Barbara, California. They live in Montecito, a posh area near Santa Barbara, Calif. In addition to Archie, Charles is also grandfather to Prince George, 7, Princess Charlotte, 5, and Prince Louis, 3, the children of Prince William and Duchess Kate.

Prince Harry and Meghan Markle are preparing to welcome their second child, a daughter, very soon and along with speculation around the bub's name looms the question of her royal title.

Meghan had previously disclosed that she suffered a miscarriage last summer in a moving opinion piece for the New York Times.

The Duke and Duchess of Sussex have announced the birth of their second child, a baby girl.

Harry and Meghan revealed they were expecting a girl in March during their explosive tell-all interview with Oprah Winfrey.

Meghan and Harry kept the pregnancy as private as possible, speaking just a handful of times about their daughter's impending arrival.
