G7 summit to open soon in Cornwall, England

The summit will take place in the Cornish seaside resort town of Carbis Bay.

The group of leading economies - Britain, Canada, France, Germany, Italy, Japan and the United States - will also try to showcase Western democratic cohesion against a resurgent China and recalcitrant Russian Federation.

President Biden had a pull-aside meeting with French President Emmanuel Macron on Friday during the G7 summit.

British Prime Minister Boris Johnson on Saturday acclaimed a "historic" action plan by G7 nations to prevent future pandemics, after Covid-19 wrecked economies and claimed millions of lives around the world.

The countries at the Summit are set to discuss a number of topics from the Covid-19 pandemic to climate change.

The declaration is named Carbis Bay Declaration after the seaside hotel where the in-person G7 summit is now being held in the English county of Cornwall.

The COVID-19 pandemic has led to over 3.7 million deaths worldwide so far.

A renowned attraction showcasing the world's ecological riches, the site also hosted a G7 meeting with Prince Charles and 10 worldwide business leaders to discuss ramping up sustainable growth.

Safeguarding global biodiversity is another G7 theme this weekend, with the leaders set on an agreement to protect at least 30 percent of the world's land and oceans by 2030. The G7 summit was shaping up to potentially be one of the most consequential in recent memory with a pandemic raging in much of the world, a global economy still in shock and threats rising from Russian Federation and China, CNN reported.

Johnson will hope to lighten the mood at a beach barbecue on Saturday, joined by his new wife Carrie and other G7 spouses, with a sea shanty band and toasted marshmallows around fire pits.

As part of the pact the G7 will boost genomic sequencing capacity, and support reforms to strengthen the World Health Organization (WHO). "As we discussed, the world needs a stronger global surveillance system to detect new epidemic and pandemic risks".
