'Not convinced' Covid-19 developed naturally, says Dr Fauci

Wuhan Institute of Virology lab

Pompeo, now a Fox News contributor, made the pointed comments following a report in the Wall Street Journal that three workers at the Wuhan Institute of Virology were hospitalized in November 2019 with symptoms consistent with both COVID-19 and seasonal illness. It may also add weight to calls for a broader probe of whether the COVID-19 virus could have escaped from the laboratory.

The report said cited USA officials as stating that the intelligence report stopped short of confirming the researchers had contracted coronavirus. "If you accept the premise, which is very strongly supported by scientific evidence, that it was not deliberately mutated and deliberately changed, and you say, if it was in the wild and evolving, the likelihood it jumped species naturally, someone will say, 'Well, maybe somebody took it from the wild, put it in the lab, and then it escaped from the lab.' But that means it was in the wild to begin with!" he added.

Importantly, the report doesn't explain why the researchers got sick or what their diagnosis was, the newspaper reported. The COVID-19 pandemic has spread to nearly all the countries across the globe, sickening more than 16 crore people and claiming the lives of over 34 lakh.

A report said 3 researchers from Wuhan Institute of Virology sought hospital care in November 2019.

"Those claims are groundless".

The researcher told CNN: "The Chinese will never allow this, and therefore I do not think that we will get an answer about how the virus originated".

"As a matter of fact, the WIV had not been exposed to Covid-19 before December 30, 2019, and a 'zero-infection" record is kept among its staff and graduate students so far, ' Zhao said in updated comments on the Foreign Ministry website.

WIV's Center for Emerging Infectious Diseases chief independently disproved any trace of a virus leak from her laboratories, and the U.S. National Security Council - in a rare veiled maneuver - has refused to play into the intelligence story's lab theory plot beforehand: "We're not going to make pronouncements that prejudge an ongoing World Health Organization study into the source of SARS-CoV-2", said a spokeswoman for the NSC. "A team from World Health Organization, visited Wuhan to investigate the virus" origin and concluded that a lab leak was "extremely unlikely".

Chinese scientists and officials have consistently rejected the lab leak hypothesis, saying SARS-CoV-2 could have been circulating in other regions before it hit Wuhan, and might have even entered China from another country via imported frozen food shipments or wildlife trading.

American investigators confirm that so far there is no evidence that the virus was created in the laboratory or used as a biological weapon, and they believe that it is likely that the virus has passed from animals to humans.

Most scientists say they have seen nothing to corroborate the idea that the virus came from a US military lab, and the White House has said there are no credible reasons to investigate it. "Rather, it focused on the lack of transparency surrounding the origins". Most scientists involved say there is no data to corroborate that theory.

The White House is continuing to call for a "transparent" global investigation into the origins of COVID-19, while maintaining that the Biden administration does not yet have enough data to draw a conclusion on the matter.

The Chinese government has also alleged that the virus originated outside China, including from the U.S. Army Medical Research Institute of Infectious Diseases (USAMRIID) at Fort Dietrich in Maryland.

But the fact is that Dr. Fauci is still lying about the fact that USA taxpayer dollars, granted by his organization - NIAID [National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases] - went to something called the EcoHealth alliance run by Dr. Peter Daszak which funded unsafe gain-of-function research making naturally occurring coronaviruses more pathogenic, more infectious at the Wuhan Institute of Virology. He noted that researchers were tested and there was no evidence found of Covid antibodies, and said the lab was "very well run". They have called in particular for better access to data and samples from potential early Covid-19 cases.
