Premier Announces Stay At Home Order

Media reports: stay at home order looms

Ontario residents are waiting to hear if the province will be issuing another stay-at-home order later today.

It requires everyone to remain at home except for trips to the grocery store or pharmacy, medical appointments including vaccinations, exercise close to home or work that can not be done remotely.

"The COVID-19 situation is at a critical stage and we must act quickly and decisively to stay ahead of these deadly new variants", said Ford.

Meanwhile, vaccine appointments for Ontarians aged 60 and older opened in all of the province's public health units on Wednesday morning.

This is the third state of emergency in Ontario since the pandemic began.

The province has not closed schools, but local public health chiefs in Toronto, Peel and Wellington-Dufferin-Guelph ordered all schools closed until at least April 19.

The government said its targeting regions based on "established patterns of transmission, severe illness, and mortality". The province will provide additional resources to support these mobile and pop-up clinics in the hardest-hit neighbourhoods.

Move would close all non-essential businesses to in-person shopping, restrict non-essential sections of big box stores.

The London Health Sciences Centre (LHSC) says it is handling nine staff and 27 inpatients positive for COVID-19, with 12 in intensive care. There have been 19,500 COVID-related workplace inspections and investigations across the province since the beginning of 2021.

Case rates, hospitalizations, and ICU occupancy are increasing rapidly across the province, threatening to overwhelm the health care system as a whole.
