Biden says it is his 'expectation' to run again for president

President Joe Biden speaks during a news conference in the East Room of the White House Thursday

"We met that goal last week, by day 58", Biden said, adding that the new goal is getting 200 million people vaccinated by his 100th day in office.

"So what we've been doing, what I've been doing and what Secretary (of State Antony) Blinken has been doing has been, we've been meeting with our allies, those other nations that have North Atlantic Treaty Organisation allies who have troops in Afghanistan as well".

Mr. Biden's opening news conference will come more than two months into his presidency.

"We will leave", he said. "A majority of economic forecasters have significantly increased their projections on the economic growth that's going to take place this year. They're now projecting it will exceed 6% growth in GDP", he said.

" My predecessor ... oh god I miss him", Mr. Biden said sarcastically.

Biden also vowed that China's ambition of becoming the wealthiest and most powerful country in the world is "not going to happen under my watch".

His appearance comes just a day after he appointed Vice President Kamala Harris to lead the government's response to the situation at the U.S. -Mexico border, where the administration faces a growing humanitarian and political challenge that threatens to overshadow Biden's legislative agenda. "Come on", Biden said, showing frustration.

"I can't guarantee that we're going to solve everything, but I can guarantee that we're going to make it better", he said.

Biden took aim at Republican state legislatures changing election laws that will scale back ballot eligibility and access to voting at a level not seen since the late 1800s; a move based on the myth that large-scale fraud occurred in the 2020 poll that former President Donald Trump lost handily.

On North Korea, Biden said a recent missile test violated a United Nations resolution and said the USA is "consulting with allies and partners" and there would be a "response" Pyongyang chooses to escalate.

"And do you believe you'll be running against former President [Donald] Trump?" He said that he wants to work with heads of state to address the root causes of migration.

Biden said China was "out-investing us by a long shot". "It's awesome. There is so much we can do that's good stuff, makes people healthier and creates good jobs", he said.

When asked if his policy is encouraging people to send unaccompanied children to the border, he said no previous administration would allow a child to "starve to death " on the other side of the border, "except Trump".

"Folks, I'm going", Biden said as he walked away. And he was only willing to commit to full transparency for journalists in border facilities at a later date - yet to be determined.

He add join say im go find solutions to oda problems like gun crime and immigration as dos problems don dey ground before e enta office.

Biden also said his "expectation" is to run for reelection in 2024.

"I set a goal that's in front of me to get things done for the people I care most about, which are hardworking decent American people".

Why did Biden speak now?

"This makes Jim Crow look like Jim Eagle, this is very big, what they're trying to do, and it cannot be sustained, and [I will] do everything in my power along with my friends in the House and the Senate to keep that from becoming the law."Is there anything else you can do about it besides passing legislation?" the reporter asked."The answer is yes, but I'm not going to lay out a strategy in front of the whole world and you now", Biden replied. At the onset of the Biden administration, the White House was clear-eyed they would immediately face a host of problems: a pandemic that had killed almost 500,000 Americans before he was sworn in, a mounting a massive scale vaccination campaign, and the need to pass a funding bill to get the American economy back on track through a thinly divided Congress. The press conference started with a bit of good news on that front". By waiting until the stimulus package was passed, Biden was able to use the press conference to showcase a major achievement for his administration.
