Active cases of COVID-19 in St. Albert at 50 on Wednesday

Alberta reports 764 COVID-19 cases, highest daily count since Jan. 15

"The number one riskiest activity is living in a household with someone who's infectious", Hinshaw said.

Hinshaw said the growth is from little moments in many different settings when Albertans come in close contact with each other and give the virus an opportunity to transmit.

The province reported 717 new cases of COVID-19 on Friday, including 325 new variant cases.

Out of 668 new cases identified, 207 have been confirmed as variant cases. The provincial positivity rate is 5. Alberta's chief medical officer of health Dr. Deena Hinsahw reported Monday that they made up about 16 per cent of all active cases.

Alberta's top doctor said many people may feel like it is inevitable to have home transmission, as at home people let their guard down, but she said if somebody in the home starts to exhibit symptoms or is exposed to COVID-19, they should take the necessary steps to prevent spread.

There are now 283 people receiving treatment in hospital, down one from Friday, including 65 whom are in intensive care, a decrease from the 59 reported on Friday.

It is an increase of 149 active variant cases in a single day.

Hinshaw said there are free hotel rooms available in the province for people to isolate outside their family home. Though, 59 people are now in the ICU, a four person increase from Thursday. There were also three new deaths related to COVID-19 reported over the last 24 hours, raising the province's death toll to 1,979.

Twenty-one per cent of the 6,835 infections are linked to the variants of concern, Chief Medical Officer of Health Dr. Deena Hinshaw said.

The province has screened a total of 13,668 cases and have found a total of 2,833 caes of variants.

Outbreaks have been declared in 110 schools, for a total of 1,058 cases.

Cypress County has one active case and 146 recoveries.

The province has delivered some 512,00 doses of the vaccine and another 418,000 people have signed up to get the shot.
