Winter weather remains as freezing rain in forecast Wednesday, Thursday

More winter weather on the way

The storm, though, will still be far from over - with precipitation not winding down until sometime between 9 a.m. and noon Friday and lingering light rain or snow showers possible through the afternoon.

"When we start moving into tomorrow, Thursday, there's the potential some of that could transition to more of a wintery mix", said National Weather Service Meteorologist Simone Lewis. "This will continue to make travel conditions very hazardous into the weekend", the weather agency said in a Wednesday morning Hazardous Weather Statement.

Snow accumulation in the area ranged from half an inch to 2 inches, according to reports, while some areas also received maybe an inch of ice chips and freezing rain. But temperatures are expected to fall to the mid 20s Wednesday night and chances of snow, freezing rain and sleet are possible after midnight, the NWS says.

The National Weather Service in Huntsville and Birmingham have issued winter storm warnings for their northwest counties, and a few counties farther south have a winter weather advisory. Lewis said the counties of central and southern West Virginia were in line for four to six inches of accumulation. and the mountain counties and eastern panhandle could receive anywhere from five to ten inches of accumulation. Our overnight officers are reporting the precipitation mixed with cold temperatures are causing icy road conditions. Normally by this point in February, the Lehigh Valley has had 7.5 inches of snow. Cloudy. Highs in the mid 30s. Winds will be on the brisk side out of the northeast around 10 to 20 miles per hour and gusting. Lows in the mid 30s.

We'll have yet another hard freeze on Friday morning with low in the low 20s.

Sunday: Mostly cloudy. Highs in the mid 50s.
