Whip Nae Nae’ Rapper Silento Arrested And Charged With Murdering His Cousin

He was taken into custody by the Dekalb County Police Department, who confirmed via Twitter that the 34-year-old man that was killed was Silento's cousin, Frederick Rooks.

Silentó, the Atlanta rapper known for the hit single and viral dance "Watch Me (Whip/Nae Nae)", was arrested and charged with murder in the shooting death of his cousin, authorities said.

According the DeKalb County Police Department, Hawk was booked at 6:35 p.m. ET local time on Monday. Representatives for Silentó did not immediately respond to Variety's request for comment.

A representative for the DeKalb County Police Department said that they investigated a shooting on January 21 at approximately 3:30 a.m. after Rooks was found in the roadway, suffering multiple gunshot wounds.

DeKalb County police reportedly found Rooks dead at the scene with multiple gunshot wounds.

Hawk is in the DeKalb County Jail, they added.

A DKPD investigation later identified Hawk, 23, as the suspect, police said.

"Investigators are still working to uncover the motive for the shooting", according to the department.

Ricky Hawk, aka Silento, at the BET Awards in June 2016. He was arrested last October and accused of driving 143 miles per hour on a Georgia highway.

The rapper launched to fame in 2015 with debut hit 'Watch Me (Whip/Nae Nae)', which has been viewed more than 1.7 billion times on YouTube.

His latest track "Swish" was released on Thursday (28 January).
