People who already have appointments for first or second doses at a hospital will still get them.

Two of the "breakthrough cases" have been reported in Yamhill County, and the others are in Lane County, the Oregon Health Authority said in a statement.

"Again, not to be unexpected in a vaccine that while phenomenal, with 95% percent effectiveness, still means 5% may still be infected".

Sequist said that at Mass General Brigham facilities, "We never had an issue with having doses that were going unused and that weren't allocated".

The race to get shots in arms took on yet another layer of importance this week after officials announced that a more contagious variant of the coronavirus - one that originated in the United Kingdom - was "very likely" detected through wastewater testing in the city of Burlington.
