"They absolutely have the full support of the Biden administration", White House spokeswoman Jen Psaki told reporters on Wednesday about the Space Force, a day after her dismissal of a question about the service suggested Biden was less than enthusiastic about it.

While meeting with reporters, Psaki was asked about the Biden administration's position on the Space Force, the sixth military branch, created by former President Donald Trump.

Psaki was asked during a Tuesday press briefing whether the Biden administration would ultimately seek to abolish the new space service, which was formally signed into law in December 2019. "I will find out and see if we have any update on that".

"Wow. Space Force. It's the plane of today!" she said, and called the question "interesting". Undoing the Space Force would require congressional approval.

Psaki three weeks ago said Biden would resume the tradition, "for the sake of clarity".

Psaki on Wednesday finally had a response to the question of what President Biden plans to do with the Space Force.

But Biden has made a decision to keep what has been called the world's only independent space force, officially established in December 2019.

Rep. Michael Waltz (R-Fla.), a founding member of the House Space Force Caucus, also criticized the remarks.

Psaki said there are estimates of between 600 to 700 children that are still separated from their parents and the task force will assess what the accurate number is and determine the best approach to reunite them with their family members.

For those who have been closely watching the universe of military space, the news of Biden's support for the Space Force will come as little surprise. "We need the professionals, @SpaceForceDoD, to keep Americans safe". She said the Defense Department's desire to focus more attention and resources on the security challenges in space has been of bipartisan concern for some time.

In 2020, the Department of Defense released a strategy for how to maintain us superiority in space.
