Biden lays out ambitious timeline 'to vaccinate every single American'

"It was released on Friday and it specifically articulates the five key mitigation strategies that we need to keep our schools open and other layered mitigation strategies, including teacher vaccination, that are nonessential to get our schools open, but we do recommend".

Following Mr. Biden's remarks, Ms. Psaki tweeted that the "goal was to open schools five days a week as quickly as possible".

President Joe Biden said during his election campaign that he wanted to get most students back to in-school learning by the end of his first 100 days in office.

"There is increasing data to suggest that schools can safely reopen and that that safe reopening does not suggest that teachers need to be vaccinated in order to reopen safely", she said.

"For four years, all that's been in the news is Trump".

"Neither the president nor the vice president believe that it is a requirement", Psaki responded.

Mr. Biden offered a frank description of what it's like to live at 1600 Pennsylvania Ave. during his CNN town hall on February 16 night, referencing past Presidents who have spoken of the building as "a little like a gilded cage". "Teachers should be a priority", Harris said. "Number One, there is some history of Blacks being used as guinea pigs in other experiments over the last 50, 75, or 100 years, so there is concern" about vaccine hesitancy in that population as a result.

Although Biden likely meant to make an assertion repeated erroneously by Vice President Kamala Harris and White House staff, that there was no vaccine distribution outline from the Trump team, that claim too, is a lie. The town hall was aimed at selling his $1.9 trillion coronavirus aid package directly to the American people, part of an effort designed in part to put pressure on Republican lawmakers and refocus Congress on speedy passage of the bill now that his predecessor's impeachment trial is behind him.

"What's going to happen is it's going to continue to increase as we move along and we'll have reached 400 million by the end of May and 600 million by the end of July", Biden said.

"If you look at the projection, I would imagine by the time we get to April, that will be what I would call, for [lack] of better wording, 'open season, '" Fauci told NBC's "Today" show. More than 55 million doses have been administered. "You can go online and every single state has a slightly different mechanism where they say who's qualified, where you can get vaccinated and so on".

Mr. Biden said he is prepared to use his executive powers to eliminate $10,000 in student loan debt for all borrowers, but not $50,000-an idea that has gained traction among Democrats on Capitol Hill. The new president said Tuesday he was ready to move on.

Biden referenced the CDC's report that there should be "smaller classes, more ventilation, making sure that everybody has masks and is socially distanced, and you have less, fewer students in one room".

"I find myself extremely self-conscious", Mr. Biden added, saying he was unaccustomed to someone "handing me my suitcoat".
