Normal People writer Sally Rooney announces new book

The book is one of the anticipated titles this year

So we can only assume that the news of a new Sally Rooney novel will have people counting down the days until its release.

Beautiful World, Where Are You is due in September and judging from the synopsis it's going to be just as wretched as Connell and Marianne's relationship in Sligo.

Although 2020 was dominated by talk of Normal People - thanks to the hugely successful TV adaptation - it's actually been three years since Sally Rooney published her inimitable novel of the same name.

She was also nominated for an Emmy for her work on the television adaption of Normal People, which was broadcast past year.

Rooney's star has been on the rise since the release of her book Conversations With Friends in 2017.

"The book scintillates with intelligence, empathy and, yes, beauty", said Bowler. Meanwhile Eileen, reeling from a break-up, resumes flirting with childhood friend Simon. They desire each other, they delude each other, they get together, they break apart.

'They have sex, they worry about sex, they worry about their friendships and the world they live in.

'Are they standing in the last lighted room before the darkness, bearing witness to something?

"As the summer approaches, they exchange emails about art, friendship, the world around them and the complicated love affairs unfolding in their own lives", the book's publisher said. Rooney had previously teased she might give up there, telling the Irish Independent: "Maybe I am one of those people who writes two novels in their 20s then never writes anything else again".

"They say they want to see each other again soon". The television adaptation of Normal People, which aired on BBC and RTÉ a year ago, received critical acclaim, and was filmed on location in Trinity.

Faber & Faber will publish the book, and they announced the news via Twitter. "But what will happen when they do?"
