Mega Millions jackpot rises to $520 million

Mega Millions Powerball lottery tickets

A second-prize winning Mega Millions ticket worth $1 million was sold in New Jersey for Friday's colossal $520 million lottery drawing.

The odds of a ticket hitting the jackpot by matching five AND the Mega Ball?

Friday's winning numbers: 3, 6, 16, 18 and 58.

Those were sold in California, Georgia, Massachusetts, New Jersey and here in NY.

That means the drawing on Tuesday, Jan. 12 will be worth $600 million with a cash option of $442.4 million. A player wins the jackpot by matching all six winning numbers in a drawing. On Friday evening, the Powerball jackpot stands at an estimated R50 million and the Powerball Plus jackpot at R6 million.

84 tickets matched four white balls plus the Mega Ball for the $10,000 third prize.

We may never know the New Jersey winner's identity under a state law that allows anonymity.

Mega Millions is played in 45 states, Washington D.C. and the U.S. Virgin Islands.

The lottery is also accepting mailed claims, though officials warn payments might be temporarily delayed.

All claim deadlines have been extended by 90 days, giving players the option to hold on to winning tickets and wait to claim any prizes until Lottery offices reopen to the public.
