Lady Gaga articulates feelings on performing US national anthem at Bidens inauguration

Jennifer Lopez feels ‘honor’ to spend a few moments with US soldiers guarding Washington DC

Lady Gaga gave a spell-binding performance of the national anthem at President Joe Biden's inauguration on Wednesday, January 20.

Garth Brooks, in a black jacket and cowboy hat with baggy blue jeans, sang "Amazing Grace". During the hymn's "God's praise" line, the country superstar glanced up at the heavens, then proclaimed, "I'm going to ask you to sing this last verse with me - not just the people here, but the people at home, at work - as one, united".

In this image from video, Katy Perry performs during the Celebrating America event on Wednesday, following the inauguration of Joe Biden as the 46th president of the United States.

Think back four years to Trump's inauguration, with its sad little performances by 3 Doors Down and the Piano Guys, and all of Biden's boldface names can start to seem like overkill. "May we all make peace with each other".

At a virtual press conference Monday, Brooks said of his Biden inauguration performance, "This is not a political statement. Including a Spanish snippet of the Pledge of Allegiance within the performance reminds Americans that this is a nation of immigrants!" Those people are probably right (Lady Gaga tweeted as much, in fact)! Alone with his guitar, The Boss sang his "Land of Hope and Dreams" in front of the Lincoln Memorial.

"It is an incredible honor to dress Dr. Biden today", O'Neill said to AFP. Jennifer Lopez also showed up to perform "This Land Is Our Land". But, man, it would've been nice to hear Megan's "Savage" instead of Jon Bon Jovi's weirdly Muppet-esque take on "Here Comes the Sun". A day for love, not hatred. The whole mission of a Garth Brooks concert is for the people that come to watch the show to leave the show loving each other more than when they came in. "Hamilton" creator Lin-Manuel Miranda recited from "The Cure at Troy" by Irish poet Seamus Heaney. Hosts Kerry Washington and Eva Longoria will be joined by basketball legend Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, chef Jose Andres, labour leader Dolores Huerta and Kim Ng, the first female general manager in Major League Baseball history. Was it the performance America deserved?

However, the inauguration is still being seen as a chance to celebrate by some.
