Cyberpunk 2077 Next-gen Update Will Arrive After Free DLC

Cyberpunk 2077 DLC will be delayed until after the most urgent fixes have arrived

After a heavy load of criticism from Cyberpunk 2077's buggy release state, CD Projekt Red co-founder Marcin Iwinski has attempted to right the studio's wrongs with a personal explanation video.

The FAQ released together with the new statement revealed more on the Cyberpunk 2077 issues on old-gen hardware.

Q: What was the main issue that made development for consoles that hard? Streaming is responsible for "feeding" the engine with what you see on screen, as well as the game mechanics. The streaming system constantly needed improvement, but the scope of the game's setting, Night City, was at odds with the disk bandwidth present in the last-generation consoles.

Q: Didn't you test old-gen consoles to keep tabs on the experience?

"Every day of us working on the Day Zero update brought visible improvement", he explains. However, this caused problems that the co-founder of CD Projekt Red says did not appear in their internal testing. You can expect more in the way of patches - both small and large - to be released regularly. Iwinski noted that patch 1.1 "will be dropping within 10 days".

In it, Iwiński tries to address numerous criticisms of the Cyberpunk 2077 since its December 10 release, many of which have revolved around extremely poor performance on PS4 and Xbox One and the fact that the company seemingly tried to hide this version of the game from reviewers prior to release, despite the studio routinely downplaying concerns about how the game played on those platforms. However, it will arrive in the latter half of 2021, after the game's free DLC.

We are committed to fixing bugs and crashes and will continue to work and improve the game via future updates to make sure you are enjoying the game regardless of the platform. "When CD PROJEKT RED, the game-development part of CD PROJEKT was born, it added something important to that principle: the ambition to make the best games in the world".

The FAQ also touches upon the Cyberpunk 2077 PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X, and Xbox Series S upgrade.

It's no secret that the launch of Cyberpunk 2077 was an unmitigated disaster.

Cyberpunk 2077 is now available for PS4 (if you can find a physical copy), Xbox One, and PC.
