Atletico close to agreeing loan deal with Lyon's Moussa Dembele

Sebastien Haller subject of Ajax bid with West Ham wanting £25 million for striker

The 28-year-old is set to be out of contract at the end of the season and it is understood West Ham are hoping to strike a cut-price deal as a result.

Moussa Dembele has been impressive with his performances for Lyon in the past two seasons.

Lyon have confirmed they are in talks with Atletico Madrid over the sale of Moussa Dembele to the Liga leaders. "I think it was on the 22nd of December before we played Nantes [when he suffered the injury], so there is still time", he said.

'This was not something we foresaw.

"We are talking with Atletico and I think Moussa has reached an agreement with Atletico", Juninho told broadcaster Telefoot.

Lyon have accepted that, although there is no buyout clause in place, Atletico will take the player on an initial loan but can buy him outright for 33 million euros within six months.

Rudi Garcia's side have identified Leicester City forward Islam Slimani as a potential January target.

"Slimani is a player we appreciate a lot, but he's one of a few possibilities", he said. We spoke with [Slimani] at the start of the season, we had nearly reached an agreement.

The former Celtic frontman scored 24 goals last season but has found the back of the net just once in the current Ligue 1 campaign and is now sidelined after suffering a broken arm last month.

Atletico Madrid who are now atop of the points tally of the La Liga will be ardently wishing that Dembele can rediscover his touch on joining them and become an integral component of their title march.
