Rajinikanth has been hospitalised at Apollo Hospitals in Hyderabad following a severe bout of blood pressure fluctuation, state a press release by the hospital chain. The actor recently flew from Hyderabad to Chennai after the film's shooting came to a halt as 4 crew members tested positive for COVID-19.

A statement from the hospital said that apart from fluctuating blood pressure and exhaustion "he did not have any other symptoms and is haemodynamically stable".

Rajinikanth tested negative for COVID-19 on December 22, and had isolated himself after a people on a film set he was shooting at in Hyderabad tested positive, Apollo Hospital added.

"Rajinikanth admitted to hospital this morning after showing severe fluctuation in blood pressure. He will be investigated and monitored closely in the hospital till his blood pressure settles down before being discharged", the statement said. Family and treating doctors have requested all well wishers to avoid visiting the hospital as he is not being allowed to meet any visitors. However, the superstar tested negative for coronavirus.

Telangana Governor Tamilisai Soundararajan, TDP supremo and former Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu and actor-politician Kamal Haasan wished the actor a speedy recovery. Keerthy Suresh has been roped in as his on-screen sister.

Rajinikanth is scheduled to announce the launch date of his new political party on December 31, a widely-anticipated event ahead of the Tamil Nadu election in four months.
