Shawn Mendes & Justin Bieber battle inner demons on "Monster"

"Justin and I have never really had a relationship together, and I had this song called "Monster" that I wrote a long time ago". For the uninitiated, Shawn Mendes is a bonafide Grammy-nominated singer with three chart-topping albums to his name. It's about how society wants to put celebrities up on a pedestal, but as much as they want to do that, they want to celebrate the fall.

He then explained about Bieber's involvement: "And his heart sank deep".

The "Holy" singer admits that "bad moves" and "jealousy" turned his once adoring fans into a mob that kept "tearing me down" even after he took "responsibility for everything I've done".

The duo first sparked collaboration rumors back in August when they were both seen at the same studio along with the "Love Yourself" singer's wife, Hailey Baldwin.

"Over the past 6 months we've gotten a lot closer".

"Hmm Gonna have to break a few more records to dethrone my title there bud", Bieber jokingly commented on Mendes' Instagram post.

On Thursday (November 19), the pop stars shared a video teaser for their collaboration, "Monster", with fans, previewing what seems to be a music video for the upcoming single. "He completely inspired me to start singing".
