Round One Of WAGatha Christie Instagram Legal Battle Goes To Rebekah Vardy

Their feud exploded into public view in October previous year, when Rooney, whose husband is Manchester United's all-time leading scorer, posted a message explaining that she had become suspicious of one of her friends and had carefully planned and executed a sting operation.

In a judgment today, Mr Justice Warby ruled that the "natural and ordinary" meaning of Rooney's posts was that Vardy had "regularly and frequently abused her status as a trusted follower of Ms Rooney's personal Instagram account by secretly informing The Sun newspaper of Ms Rooney's private posts and stories".

"The ordinary reader would not regard the post as merely telling him or her who it is that Ms Rooney suspects, or as simply raising Ms Vardy's guilt as no more than one possibility, among others".

"She has been drawn into this litigation despite the fact she has offered on a number of occasions to mediate with the claimant, Mrs Vardy".

"The claimant never knows when or where she might be faced with the allegation or reference to the post which causes her great anxiety and upset", Mr Tomlinson said.

Mrs Vardy's written claim, filed in June, detailed the "very high levels of public abuse and ridicule" she received after Mrs Rooney's post.

Mr Tomlinson said the post would leave no doubt in the mind of any "reasonable reader" that Coleen was accusing Rebekah of betraying her trust over several years.

Rebekah's denied the accusations, and says she "suffered extreme distress and embarrassment as a result".

Referring to Vardy's legal team headed up by Hugh Tomlinson QC, he adds: "As Mr Tomlinson submits, the reader is told early on that Ms Rooney formed a suspicion; the rest of the post is telling the reader how she established the truth".

Dubbed Wagatha Christie for her investigative skills, Coleen planted fake news about the accident on her Instagram account and blocked all subscribers except Rebekah.

"She was the one who did the leaking". Vardy has also appeared on several reality shows.

Following a tweet from Donald Trump about knowing who the new leader of the so-called Islamic State was, some users joked that it was Mrs Vardy.

Mrs Vardy's husband Jamie was also targeted with chants during football matches as opposition fans chanted slogans including "your wife is a grass" for up to five minutes at a time.

The court heard that both Rooney and Vardy had agreed to a delay until February so they could make a final attempt at resolving their differences without going to a full trial.

David Sherborne, representing Ms Rooney, argued that it was "true" that Ms Vardy was "responsible for consistently passing on information about the defendant's private Instagram posts and stories to The Sun". A judge has made an initial ruling in favour of Vardy, but the legal battle is far from over.

Mrs Rooney's lawyers also said Mrs Vardy had had an "exceptionally close relationship" with The Sun and some of its journalists for the purposes of promoting herself or making money from her public profile.

'It sets out clearly the facts of her case, which remain the same irrespective of any decision on the meaning.

Last year. Rooney wrote she had gradually narrowed down access to her private Instagram after information appeared in the newspaper and deduced that Vardy's account was behind it.
