Tributes have flown in from across the world after it was confirmed on Wednesday that the Argentina, Napoli and Boca Juniors hero suffered a fatal heart attack on Wednesday.

Maradona had been battling health problems for years, and even underwent brain surgery in Buenos Aires earlier this month.

Carlos Bilardo, the coach of Argentina's 1986 World Cup-winning team who is in poor health, was still unaware on Thursday of the death of Diego Maradona on Thursday, because of his family's wish not to upset him.

Monuments and landmarks in the country's capital Buenos Aires were to be illuminated starting Wednesday with the colors of the Argentinian flag in his honor, with the light show to be repeated each night of mourning.

"There weren't any vital signs, so the nurse and psychiatrist came in and tried to perform CPR, but it was unsuccessful", added the attorney's statement. Later on, the ambulances arrived along with the clinical doctor of the medical provider.

The players will wear black armbands and in the 10th minute the image of Maradona, who wore the number 10, will be displayed on stadium video screens for 60 seconds. If there is anyone well suited for a tribute in the current times, it is Diego Maradona.

During his time playing, Maradona was one of the best footballers of all time.

Maradona inspired Argentina to victory at the 1986 World Cup.

The first goal was allowed to stand because the referee did not see the foul.

Leagues around Europe will honour former Napoli and Barcelona player Diego Maradona in different ways after his passing on Wednesday.

"Maradona means a lot, not just to me but to all Neapolitans".

Players observed a minute's silence before kick-off as pictures of Maradona appeared on the electronic scoreboards.
