Get ready for Sharkboy & Lavagirl's return

Rodriguez surprised fans this morning with an espresso shot of nostalgia with the reveal of Sharkboy and Lavagirl all grown up for his upcoming movie We Can Be Heroes. In the new film, Dooley, 27, will return as Lavagirl, while JJ Dashnaw will replace Lautner, 28, as Sharkboy. The sequel is set within the same world as the original movie, but takes place many years into the future.

Robert Rodriguez has a superhero movie called We Can Be Heroes coming to Netflix at the beginning of 2021. Together, they need to be rescued by their super-power kids after being kidnapped. Directed and written by Rodriguez, We Can Be Heroes features YaYa Gosselin, Pedro Pascal, Priyanka Chopra-Jonas, Christian Slater, Boyd Holbrook, Christopher McDonald, and Adriana Barraza for a display of action and superpowers that looks as visually dazzling as it does exciting!

The film will also introduce the duo's daughter, Guppy which will be played by Bird Box actress Vivien Lyra Blair. Taylor Dooley looks great back in her Lavagirl suit and bright pink hair for We Can Be Heroes.

Naturally, a lot of Sharkboy and Lavagirl fans aren't too happy that Taylor Lautner is missing from the new film.

Fans on Twitter were outraged upon discovering this fact, calling the new actor an "imposter" and pointing out that Taylor was seemingly not returning for the follow-up. It's basically Spy Kids with superheroes, and it all looks quite ridiculous, and you can watch the We Can Be Heroes trailer below to see for yourself.

We Can Be Heroes finds alien invaders kidnapping all of Earth's superheroes, leaving their superpowered kids to be protected in a government safe house.
