COVID-19 patients Possess Resistance for Half a Year, Research finds

South Africa has a Covid-19 positivity rate of 14

The report claims to be the first significant look at how coronavirus resistance functions.

"Being infected with COVID-19 does offer protection against reinfection for most people for at least six months".

Scientists have developed a new therapy for influenza virus infections that may also prove effective against many other pathogenic virus infections, including HIV and Covid-19.

He explained after following individuals for six months that the researchers were excited to talk about their outcomes.

Researchers at Oxford studied healthcare workers for 30 weeks since April. None of the 1,246 workers who had antibodies got sick.

"We know from a previous study that antibody levels fall over time, but this latest study shows that there is some immunity in those who have been infected", said Eyre, a professor in Oxford's Nuffield Department of Population Health. "Our lab tests show that our process works in influenza-infected mice that are inoculated with 100 times the lethal dose of virus", Low said.

"We target all of the antiviral drugs we develop specifically to virus-infected cells", said study author Philip S. Low from the Purdue University in the US. He said all three were OK and did not develop code-19 symptoms.

The results revealed that staff with antibodies were less likely to test positive for Covid-19, with just 3 health care workers developing the virus without symptoms, and 3 without symptoms.

But the results of the study, conducted on a group of United Kingdom healthcare professionals - who are among the most at risk of compromising COVID-19 - indicate that relapse cases are rare.

"Studies like this one are absolutely vital in helping us to understand how this new virus behaves and what the implications are for acquired immunity". "That way, we treat the diseased cells without harming healthy cells".

With that total, plus 711,195 recoveries and 20,968 reported deaths, it is estimated there are now 37,596 active cases of Covid-19 in the country. However, up until now there have not been any large-scale studies of how much protection from reinfection people get after Covid-19.
