Clemson's scheduled game against Florida State was abruptly postponed less than four hours before Saturday's scheduled kickoff. Clemson did make the trip to Tallahassee fully intending on playing the game.

The person did not wish to be identified because Clemson had not disclosed the reason for the postponement. That led Florida State to grow concerned that he had possibly been contagious and spread the virus to other Clemson offensive linemen who did not yet know it but could spread it to Florida State players.

The second person also spoke to AP on condition of anonymity because the schools were not publicly revealing details about why the game was off.

According to CBS Sports, part of the issue on whether to play came when a Clemson player's COVID-19 test came back positive Saturday morning.

Clemson athletic director Dan Radakovich said the school was "disappointed" the game couldn't get underway.

A makeup date has not been set, but Norvell said the teams will try to play the game in December.

"We woke up this morning ready to play this game", Norvell told ESPN. Star quarterback Trevor Lawrence sat out of that game after testing positive for the virus, but was expected to return to today. The Panthers were missing 16 players due to COVID for Saturday's game but still demolished Virginia Tech by a score of 47-14. This is standard before any ACC game can be played.

Star Clemson quarterback Trevor Lawrence was scheduled to make his first start since October 24.

Clemson (7-1) has not played since a 47-40 double-overtime loss to Notre Dame on November 7. The good news? Clemson still controls its own destiny in the pursuit of another ACC Championship Game appearance and possible appearance in the College Football Playoff.

"We now look ahead to returning to action next week against Pitt for Senior Day and Military Appreciation Day at Memorial Stadium", Radakovich said in a statement.
