Charli D'Amelio Criticized

Charli and Dixie D'Amelio

Following her video controversy, TikTok users got outraged and Charli D'Amelio lost around 1M followers on this platform.

In the clip, which was announced to be the first in a series called "Dinner with the D'Amelios", Charlie, her parents and her 19-year-old sister Dixie, who also has a substantial 43.8-million fanbase on the platform, were joined by fellow TikToker James Charles to be served traditional Spanish paella by May.

She asked the chef what it was.

James Charles has taken to Twitter to defend Charli following the nasty hate messages she's been receiving.

In fact, Charli has lost one million followers in the days after the video was posted to YouTube on November 16 - the clip has since received nearly 10 million views and counting. Some of Dixie and Charli's reactions to the meal garnered criticism online.

She apologized genuinely and added that she never meant to let anyone down and be hurtful in her video. Dixie tasted the snails and immediately gagged before running away to vomit.

The free nuggets are nice, but that's not all Charli and Dixie have coming - we're told they're also getting Yummy Dino Buddies swag.

The video sparked a fierce backlash on YouTube and social media.

Charli, who had more than 99.5 million followers on TikTok, lost one million followers as a result of the backlash to the video, according to Vanity Fair.

After the video was posted, Charli and Dixie began being "cancelled" as fans branded them "rude", "ungrateful" and "lacking manners".

Her followers reportedly dropped to 98.5 million.

She followed her own response up by taking to Twitter to issue a longer apology.

The loss of followers must have come as a disappointment to Charli, who revealed in the video that she was aiming to reach a total of 100 million followers by the end of the year. As of this writing, she has 44.1 million followers. She further said how these people will never be a part of her life in the future and she is fine with it.

He called Charli grateful for her fans and how he doesn't like these statements dragging her down. As Hank Green notes in a TikTok about the D'Amelio situation: "People love tearing down teen girls when they make little mistakes but the big teen boys make colossal fuckups and get free passes all the time". Behind the scenes, the team decided to make Dixie eat a snail to try and get a reaction from her.
