Biden Scores Rare Victory in Traditionally Republican State of Georgia

The Trump campaign's latest strategy, as described by three people familiar with the plan, is to convince Republican-controlled legislatures in battleground states won by Mr Biden, such as MI, to undermine the results.

Many of the Trump campaign's election lawsuitshave hit a wall, with Trump and his team now launching a new plan to stall the final vote count for long enough to throw Biden's victory into doubt.

Trump's campaign dropped a federal lawsuit on Thursday challenging the election results in MI, citing the Wayne County officials' affidavits.

Insisting against all odds that a path to victory remains viable, Trump was meeting Friday with MI lawmakers in a bid to pressure districts in key states to overturn the voters' will.

Trump also reportedly invited Michigan Republican lawmakers to the White House, even as his campaign team withdrew a lawsuit that asked the courts to block final certification of the state's results, according to AFP.

In Arizona on Wednesday, Secretary of State Katie Hobbs, a Democrat, said she was receiving escalating threats of violence, as she blamed the president and members of Congress for spreading disinformation about the results.

"Far from me to question his motives, it's just outrageous what he's doing", Mr Biden said, referring to Mr Trump's legal manoeuvres to overturn the election result.

United States President-elect Joe Biden on Thursday said that President Donald Trump's refusal to authorise an orderly transition of power ensured that he would be remembered as "one of the most irresponsible presidents in American history".

The Trump campaign's latest strategy, as described by three people familiar with the plan, is to convince Republican-controlled legislatures in battleground states won by President-elect Joe Biden, such as MI, to set aside the results and determine Trump the victor. The state is expected to certify Biden's victory on Friday.

Trump's White House meeting was coming days after he personally called two local canvass board officials who had refused to certify the results in Wayne County, Michigan's most populous county and one that overwhelmingly favoured Biden. Observers have warned about this day since before Trump even became President.

At the White House, Vice President Mike Pence told reporters that a vaccine could be available across the U.S. in "a few short weeks".

This is a hard legal argument since the campaign is asking a court to override the vote of millions of Americans because of relatively minor alleged voting irregularities. But such meetings are in fact rare, particularly as Trump has maintained a low profile since the election.

Mr Giuliani railed against the reporting of his team's legal challenges, saying the media had shown an "irrational pathological hatred for the president".

Trump is still refusing to begin the presidential transition process, keeping up his legal and recount efforts in several states, and pursuing unprecedented manoeuvres to overturn the will of American voters.

That recount would be done using scanners that read and tally the votes and would be paid for by the counties, the secretary of state's office has said.

Trump's attempts to reverse the outcome via lawsuits and recounts have met with little success.

Even though election officials have not reported any major irregularities, most prominent Republicans have remained devoted to their leader or quietly acceded.
