2 dead in stabbing at church in San Jose, California

Two people are dead from injuries they sustained when multiple people were stabbed at Grace Baptist Church in San Jose California

Grace Baptist Church stabbing leaves two people dead, and three others in serious condition.

A couple hours after announcing the attack on Twitter Sunday, the San Jose Police Department tweeted a thank-you to firefighters and first-responding officers "who rendered aid to victims in the middle of a chaotic scene and undoubtedly saved lives".

Police have described the scene at the church as "chaotic" and said multiple stabbing victims required aid from officers and firefighters who rushed to assist.

Video captured from the scene by CBS San Francisco shows a large police presence and a number of emergency vehicles outside the house of worship.

No church services were underway at the time of the stabbing.

The tragic event occurred on Sunday at a church in San Jose, Cali.

San Jose Police Department did not reveal how many people were hurt, but later confirmed that "two victims have succumbed to their injuries" and died.

According to local Fox affiliate KTUV, the church was part of an effort to provide shelter for the homeless.

It's unclear whether a suspect was in police custody.

Local media reported a suspect had been detained, but San Jose police did not confirm that an arrest was made in connection to the attack.

Police didn't say whether any of the homeless individuals were involved.
