Trump Campaign: Postpone Second Presidential Debate Instead of Virtual Format

Donald Trump

The U.S. Commission on Presidential Debates announced its plan for the next debate Thursday, saying Trump, who is being treated for COVID-19, and Democratic challenger Joe Biden would participate from separate remote locations.

Pressed by Hannity if he'd tested negative, Trump said, "Well, what we're doing is probably, the test will be tomorrow, and the actual test, because there's no reason to test all the time, but they found very little infection or virus, if any, I don't know that they found any, I didn't go into it greatly with the doctors".

An internal FEMA memo leaked yesterday has indicated that 34 people linked to the White House have now tested positive for the coronavirus. The Oct. 15 town hall was set for Miami.

"For the swamp creatures at the Presidential Debate Commission to now rush to Joe Biden's defense by unilaterally canceling an in-person debate is pathetic", he said in a statement.

"I'm not sure what President Trump is all about now, I don't know what his status is", Biden said Tuesday.

BIDEN: The Biden campaign focused on what its response to the pandemic would be should he take office.

President Donald Trump added more turbulence on Thursday to the U.S. presidential race by refusing to participate in an Oct 15 debate with Democratic rival Joe Biden after it was changed to a virtual event to guard against the spread of Covid-19, prompting Biden to book a solo televised town hall-style event instead.

Late Thursday afternoon, it was announced that Biden will instead take part in a town hall in Philadelphia hosted by ABC News on the 15th.

U.S. media are saying that chances of the second debate taking place next Thursday are now slim.

The Biden campaign quickly rejected the October 29 proposal, saying the schedule is set by the debate commission, not the president. The debate was originally scheduled for October 15.

With less than four weeks until Election Day and with millions of voters casting early ballots, pressure is building on Mr Trump to turn around a campaign that is trailing Mr Biden nationally and in most battlegrounds, where the margin is narrower. Kamala Harris, D-Calif., Biden's running mate, met in the sole vice presidential debate.
