Virat Kohli's wife slams Sunil Gavaskar for "distasteful" commentary

IPL 2020: Sunil Gavaskar's Sexist Comment on Virat Kohli And Anushka Sharma Creates Controversy

It all happened during the Kings XI innings when Kohli dropped centurion KL Rahul in the deep off Dale Steyn bowling, Gavaskar apparently said: "Inhone lockdown to bas Anuskha ki gendon in practice ki haia".

Though the comment was about Anushka's husband and RCB skipper Virat Kohli, Anushka was dragged into the commentary with a remark he made, that was in rather poor taste.

"I am sure over the years you have respected the private lives of every cricketer while commentating on the game". "You know me, I am the one who has always batted for wives going with husbands on tour".

The remark according to Gavaskar was in reference to a video clip where Kohli and Anushka were seen enjoying some tennis ball cricket in their compound. He was referring to Anushka and Virat playing cricket on their terrace, the footage of which had gone viral during the lockdown.

He then added that during the lockdown Kohli faced only Anushka's bowling and it is showing that it did not help much. While speaking in support of her colleague Anushka, Zareen also mentioned in her statement that the former is never praised when Virat does well on the field and is only targeted when he fails. On September 21, 2020, when RCB had registered their first win in IPL against SRH, Anushka Sharma had taken to her IG handle and posting a picture of the match-winning moment of RCB against SRH, had congratulated her husband for the fantastic win. "That's the only thing I am doing". After Gavaskar was misquoted on social media, his comment went viral and has been blown out of proportion. "Anushka remained quiet when I was threatened and called Haramkhor but today the same misogyny coming to bite her, I condemn the fact that she was dragged into cricket by Sunil Gavaskar but selective feminism is equally uncool", Kangana wrote on the micro-blogging site.

The comments, seemingly lost in translation, has lead to the actor responding with a firm rebuke on her Instagram page. Respected Mr. Gavaskar, you are a legend whose name stands tall in this gentleman's game. I am only saying that the video said that she was bowling to Virat.

Anushka, who has faced negativity and trolling in the past as well for Kohli's performance, said she was exhausted of being dragged into cricket.

"Rohit [Sharma] didn't strike the ball well in his first match, MSD [Mahendra Singh Dhoni] didn't strike the ball well, Virat [Kohli] also didn't strike the ball". "I would like to say it again: Where am I blaming her?"
