South Dakota AG involved in fatal crash, reported he hit a deer

South Dakota's Attorney General involved in fatal crash

Authorities say the accident happened about 10:30 p.m. Saturday in Hyde County.

It was unclear from the DPS news release if Ravnsborg checked on what he hit, looked at his vehicle for damage, called 911, or where Boever was found or by whom.

Nemec heard Ravnsborg's apology and said that it "irritated the hell" out of him.

Boever's body was found the next morning, according to the highway patrol.

Mr Nemec said he and his cousin had planned to fix Mr Boever's Ford pickup truck the next day, but Mr Boever made a decision to walk back to his vehicle Saturday night instead. He thinks that his cousin was "probably walking back to the pickup from his home in Highmore when he was struck by Ravnsborg". The state's Department of Public Safety is continuing to investigate the incident.

"Ravnsborg, a 44-year-old from Pierre, was driving a sedan westbound on U.S. Highway 14 on Saturday night". The "Lincoln Day Dinner", which charged guests $50 in advance and $30 at the door, included a raffle to win a.45 handgun with "Donald Trump 45th", and "Make America Great Again" engraved into the barrel, according to the event's page on the South Dakota Republican Party's website. "We have no reason to doubt that he did not continue that trend", he told ABC News.

Ravnsborg said in a statement, "I am shocked and filled with sorrow following the events of last night".

Kristi Noem said in a news conference Sunday that the South Dakota Highway Patrol will conduct an investigation of the collision, which will be overseen by Cabinet Secretary for the South Dakota Department of Public Safety Craig Price.

The Attorney General, who had not been hurt in the crash, had been driving back home from the Spink County Lincoln Day Dinner in Redfield, Tim Bormann, spokesman for the South Dakota Division of Criminal Investigation, told the Journal.

"At this time I offer my deepest sympathy and condolences to the family", he said in a statement.
