Nintendo reports record-setting Switch sales for August 2020

DOOM 64 PS4 and Switch limited print physical editions announced

It was announced today by NPD analyst Mat Piscatella on YouTube and Twitter.

More than three years after its release, the Nintendo Switch continues to be a sales juggernaut for Nintendo. "Switch was the best-selling hardware platform of the month". The Japanese company also saw similar sales results with its Wii console in August 2008, two years after launch, according to NPD.

Perhaps due to the coronavirus pandemic forcing everyone indoors, video game sales have been increasing across the board, particularly of the digital disc-less variety.

Meanwhile, EA Sports' UFC 4 also made a big impression as the second best-selling game of the month, setting a new franchise launch month sales record for an Electronic Arts published UFC title. Sales statistics for the month of August have come out, revealing that Nintendo had a record-breaking month for sales thanks to their hybrid console.

The NPD Group has revealed its market data for the gaming industry in August 2020. The Switch's August sales doubled the number of units sold in August 2019. UFC 4 ranked as the third best-selling game of August on both PlayStation 4 and Xbox One. Consumer spending totalled $3.3 billion, a 37% year-on-year increase, led by a strong performance from sports games and Nintendo Switch hardware and software.

Just last week, "Legend of Zelda" series producer Eiji Aonuma told fans that they will need to "wait a bit longer" for Nintendo to provide new updates on "The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild 2".
