Kelly Clarkson Shares Her Struggles During Divorce: 'The Worst'

Simon Cowell was her judge. Now she's filling in for him

She explained why the divorce has been the worst thing ever. "I don't know how people go through that without having some kind of outlet because it is the worst thing for everyone involved".

Not long after she swore she wouldn't be saying much about her divorce, Kelly Clarkson has already become something of an open book!

Life appeared to have been going pretty well for Kelly Clarkson a year ago, but now she's singing a different tune. She appeared to touch on the emotional split during an interview appearance on Sunday Today With Willie Geist, airing Sunday (September 13). They have two children: daughter River, 6, and son Remington, 4. and Clarkson is stepmother to Blackstock's two children from a previous marriage.

The Piece by Piece hitmaker split from her husband, Brandon Blackstock, in June after almost seven years of marriage, and has said that whilst she's an "open person", she isn't willing to discuss her breakup as it involves the couple's two young children - six-year-old River Rose and four-year-old Remington Alexander. The first "American Idol" champion, Clarkson married Blackstock in 2013. "The whole record is basically every emotion you experience from the beginning of a relationship to the end of what it is now", she explained.

"This next record will probably be the most personal one I've ever released".

It'll be interesting to see how she channels and processes all of this serious real-life stuff through her music when the album does come out, though. It's been very therapeutic for me.

"It's just a really, really hard difficult thing". "It's very honest. There's one that my kids sing in the auto", she noted.

She also opened up about a highlight of the year: winning at the Emmys. Clarkson admits it does get a little freaky playing the personal music with her kids listening and even singing along.

"Wow. Shaming a woman who has a great work ethic, is a great mom, and who steps up and fills in when a friends asks for a favor because that's actually what "good old country girls" do", she hit back, referring to her filling in for Simon Cowell on America's Got Talent.
