Apple Watch's blood oxygen monitor may detect Covid-19 symptoms

It is official, we have a new Apple Watch SE

Blood oxygen is one indicator of pulmonary health, and Apple is already putting the new capability to very timely use. We also got some updated iPads, and a few things in between. The reading takes 15 seconds.

Still, with no change in the company's claimed "18-hour battery life", using the Series 6 for more than a day without charging remains an elusive desire. On the outside, it may not seem like an enormous upgrade, but Apple packed in a larger display, the new S6 processor, and even a Blood Oxygen sensor.

Apple Watch Series 6 starts at $399. It's a regular Retina display, however, not always-on and there's no blood-oxygen or ECG apps. Pre-orders today, shipping Friday. But those trade-offs help keep the price down. Pre-order it now starting at $279. Apple Watch SE is available in three handsome case finishes made of 100 percent recycled aluminum, and compatible with all Apple Watch bands including the new Solo Loop and Braided Solo Loop.

The budget Apple Watch is better than ever. A Leather Link option, meanwhile, for the Series 6 wraps around the wrist and attaches on the other side via molded magnets.

The launch unveiled a new Apple Fitness+ service, powered by its watches, that will deliver virtual workouts. Pricing starts at $9.99/month or $79.99 per year and is coming by the end of 2020.

Rounding out Apple's new hardware is the eighth generation iPad.

Apple One (post update): The massive Apple bundle is here, including iCloud, Apple Music, TV+, Arcade, News+, and Fitness+ for $15/month for individuals or $20/month for families.

Compared to subscribing to each service individually, the Individual plan will save users $6 per month, while the Family and Premier plans will save subscribers $8 and $25 per month, respectively. They all roll out this fall. It also allows family members to receive location alerts so parents will know where the child is and if they have entered or exited a geofenced area. The feature is part of watchOS 7, which rolls out on September 16.

Activity Rings will track Move minutes for kids, not calories burned.

Apple's line-up reflected a new focus on services. It's also being said that Apple will reveal some final features of the iOS 14 and that the Cupertino-based tech giant will release the stable version of iOS 14 and iPadOS 14 right after the event. If history is any indication, they'll probably appear around noon ET once the teams on the West Coast log on.
