TRAILER: Brendan Gleeson Plays Donald Trump In New Series

Irish actor Brendan Gleeson will have his work cut out for him with his next role, stepping up to the plate as Donald Trump in The Comey Rule.

The Comey Rule will star Jeff Daniels (The Newsroom) as former FBI Director James Comey and Brendan Gleeson (Mr. Mercedes) as President Donald J. Trump. Comey was sacked by President Trump in 2017 after controversy over the FBI's investigation of the Hilary Clinton emails scandal and the separate investigation into Russian affect in the USA election.

During the short clip, Trump is heard saying: "I know some people in the Bureau have it in for me but I'm the President now".

"Based on Showtime, The Comey Principle is" an immersive, behind-the-headlines accounts of the turbulent events surrounding the 2016 presidential elections and its aftermath, which split a country".

The Comedy Rule is set to air on Showtime in the United States on September 27. The first the main series will examine the first days of the infamous Russia investigation, which was conducted by special prosecutor Robert Mueller from May 2017 to March 2019 and looked into so-called links between Trump associates and Russian officials.

The series is based on Comey's autobiography, the bestselling A Higher Loyalty: Truth, Lies & Leadership, as well as over a year's worth of interviews, and tells of the tumultuous period between Comey and Trump during the election and the first few months of his presidency.

At the same time, the second part of The Comedy Rule is "a virtual day-by-day account of the tempestuous relationship between Comey and Trump".
