Gophers football ranks 18th in preseason coaches poll

In the final version of this poll from the 2019 season, the Gophers finished No. 10.

Ohio State will open the 2020 college football season as the second-ranked team in the coaches' poll, behind only Clemson.

Iowa started last season No. 19 in the Coaches Poll.

This year, Jim Harbaugh's club is widely predicted to post a third-place finish in the Big Ten's East division. The Buckeyes lost to Clemson in the semifinals last season.

Two other Big 12 teams are ranked.

Utah is replacing nine starters on defense, including its entire secondary, while there are question marks at quarterback and running back after Tyler Huntley and Zack Moss moved on to the NFL.

Ohio State, which lost 29-23 to Clemson in a Fiesta Bowl semifinal a year ago, is second in the poll and received 17 first-place votes. Unranked Michigan State, whose first-year head coach Mel Tucker is on the voting panel, failed to garner any votes.
