Google People Cards are virtual visiting cards on Google Search

Google Introduces ‘People Cards’ in India to Let You Build Your Public Profile for Search Engine

Google India today announced a new feature called people cards. One of which is limiting the number of people cards a Google account can create - it is set to one. The users must then click on the prompt that appears.

"For the millions of influencers, entrepreneurs, prospective employees, self-employed individuals, freelancers, or anyone else out there who wants to be discovered, we hope this new Search feature will help the world find them", said Google in a blog post.

For building the people's card, the users can choose to use the image that they have provided for their Google account, fill in their description, links for their social media profiles and website, and if they so wish, phone number and email ID. Therefore, the tech giant has put in place several protections and controls so as to maintain the quality of information available on such visiting cards. The user will have complete control of the information to be included on the card and can opt-out of the experience anytime, which will stop their details from appearing in search.

There is also a feedback button available on cards that can be used to report low-quality information or a card that might have been created by an impersonator. In case of people who share the same name, Google Search will show multiple modules.

In order to create your people card, you will be required to sign into your Google Account and do a Google search for 'add me to Search.' This will lead you to a link that will require you to add information that you may choose to add or not. So if you both have People Cards, how can they be differentiated? Also, there is the picture on the card. When searching for someone's name and there is a card available, Google Search will display a module with the name, profession, and location, and users can tap to see the full information within the card. It is a super easy process that requires you to fill in the details, preview the card, correct any issues, and make it live in search results. Here's how you can get started with the new feature and build or enhance your online presence on Google Search.

Speaking about why India is one of the first places where People Cards have been rolled out, Clark explained that it was much more common for people in India to search for non-prominent people's names compared to other reasons.

"The feature is being launched in India because of the geography's affinity to search their own names", said Lauren Clark, product manager for search at Google.
